How do I know if I have Pitru Dosha?
- Why is it that one person wins a lottery of ₹10 crore, while lakhs of others don’t receive even a single paisa—even though everyone made a similar efforts in life? What kind of Karma is that? We brush it up by saying some people are Lucky, but what influences their Luck?
- Why is it that one child is born into a wealthy family, while another is born into poverty—even when their birth time, planetary positions, and other astrological factors appear to be the same? Isn’t that interesting to know? What kind of Karma/Dosha is this?
- Why is it that some families rise to success, prosperity, and abundance with the birth of a child, while others fall into poverty and misfortune with the same event? What and which Karma/Dosha is responsible for this? Who is guiding them in these tough times?
- Why is it that some children pass away before birth or shortly after, without even experiencing life? Did they even ask for it or they carried something from the past or their parents carried along the sorrow with them? What kind of Karma/Dosha causes this?
- Why is it that some people fail to achieve success, wellness, fame, and wealth—despite working hard, using intelligence, giving their 100%, and being truly deserving—while others reach the pinnacle of success effortlessly, day by day? What and which Karma/Dosha explains this?
- Why is it that birth and death, highs and lows, wealth and poverty, success and failure, love and hatred, children and parents—are not the same for every human being on this Earth? What and which Karma/Dosha governs this?
This is Because of Pitru Dosha/Pitru Rinn
Even though you may have tried numerous remedies—such as wearing gemstones or birthstones, using Navgraha Ratnas, Shri Yantra, Laxmi Yantra, performing Vastu Poojan, chanting mantras, observing fasts, meeting gurus, and so on—nothing seems to have truly worked in your favor.
You still haven’t achieved the success you rightfully deserve. If you are experiencing repeated setbacks such as losses in business, job instability, decline in status or fame, strained relationships, financial difficulties, health issues, lack of confidence, or any other form of suffering—then it is very likely that the root cause lies in Pitra Dosha, or unresolved karmic debts of your ancestors.
The only effective solution is to worship your ancestors (Pitra), seek forgiveness for past karmic debts (Rinn), and remove Pitra Dosha from your birth chart—if it is present.
According to Hindu scriptures like the Bhagavad Gita and Shiv Mahapuran, one should worship their Pitras (ancestors) before worshiping the gods.
The Pitra Yoni (ancestral realm) is considered a divine category between humans and gods. When a soul enters the Pitra Yoni after death, it means they are to be remembered and worshiped for generations. Pitras do not go to heaven or hell until they attain Mukti (liberation); they remain associated with their family lineage for up to seven generations from the father’s side and four generations from the mother’s side.
It’s not just us humans—even deities like Lord Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh (Shiva), Ram, Krishna, Indra Dev, Chandra Dev, Goddess Parvati, Sati, Lakshmi, and Sita have faced Dosha and Rinn in various incarnations.
For instance, due to Dosha, even Lord Mahadev (Kaal Mahakaal) had to behead his own son, which ultimately led to the birth of Lord Ganesha
What is Pitru Dosh/Rinn/Lekha?
“Pitra” refers to our manes, ancestors, forefathers, or deceased family members. Pitras exist in a realm between humans and God. According to Hindu scriptures, there are only three primary Yonis (realms of existence):
- Dev/Yam Yoni (Realm of the Gods or Death)
- Pitra Yoni (Realm of the Ancestors)
- Manushya Yoni (Realm of Humans)
Every deceased human soul (Manushya) is either invited to heaven or hell based on their Karma and desire, and thus becomes free from the cycle of cosmic accounting (Lekha Chakra). However, those who are not invited—or choose not to leave their family due to unfulfilled desires—reside in Pitra Yoni, remaining between the divine and their family forever.
If our forefathers have knowingly or unknowingly committed mistakes, crimes, or sins, their descendants are responsible for compensating their karmic debt.
This compensation happens through experiencing certain forms of suffering, or by performing specific rituals (Kriya), at any of the 12 Jyotirlinga by the experts, chanting mantras, OR using Sattvinpindi yantra designed as per Garudapurana & Shiv mahapurana to Compensate Pitrudosh, Mukti, Shanti of ancestors(peace and resolution).
Every family carries its own Pitras, along with associated Dosh (defects), Rinn (debts), and Lekha (karmic accounts). These are passed down from generation to generation if not resolved. Each person’s ninth house in their birth chart (horoscope) represents the Pitra, as well as fortune and the Sun. If the ninth house is afflicted by malefic planetary influences, even benefic planets may stop delivering positive results.
This is the power and impact of unresolved Pitra Dosha. Just as you inherit your parents’ property, wealth, debts, bloodline, health conditions, and relationships, you also inherit their karmic deeds—both good and bad.
These karmic debts must be compensated, the Dosha must be removed, and the ancestors must be liberated (Mukti).
Remember: Pitras are as divine and powerful as God. If they are pleased with you, and you have successfully repaid their Rinn (debt), then your life becomes smoother and more prosperous.
But if they remain angry, cursed (Shrapit), or unfulfilled, their unsettled karmic debts will continue to create obstacles, setbacks, and suffering in your life.
This applies only when your Pitras are Ashant (restless), Shrapit (cursed), or have not attained Mukti due to unresolved desires or sins.
Life is a mixture of joy and sorrow. The sorrow may come in many forms—childlessness, joblessness, financial loss, professional struggles, or household conflicts. One significant reason behind such problems could be Pitra Dosha, which needs to be identified and addressed through appropriate remedies
Types of "Pitra" :There are basically three types of Pitras:
A) Shant Pitra (Peaceful Ancestors):
These are the forefathers who lived calm and content lives. They stayed away from worldly entanglements (Moh-Maya), believed in God, and surrendered everything to divine will. They bore no grudges against anyone, never knowingly or unknowingly harmed, cheated, or killed any living being. They died peacefully, with fulfilled desires, and left their children and family to their own fate—without emotional attachment.
Although they became Pitras after death, they do not maintain emotional connections with their families. These Pitras are generally at peace—whether they are worshiped or not. However, if respected and worshiped through proper Vedic rituals, it adds to the family’s fortune and well-being.
Still, one should not forget the truth: these Pitras are your ancestors and are still present in the Pitra Yoni. As their bloodline, it is your duty to help them attain Mukti (liberation).
B) Ashant Pitra (Unsettled Ancestors):
These are the forefathers who died either naturally or unnaturally, but were unable to accept their death. They left the world with unfulfilled desires, unresolved emotions, and worries about their children’s future—such as education, marriage, survival, and success. In their lifetime, they may have gone to any extent—legally or illegally—to support and protect their families.
These Pitras remain emotionally attached to their family members and never truly leave them.
⚠️ Remember: These Pitras seek the same respect and care as any living family member. They tend to be angry or restless, and often make their presence felt during important family events or difficult times.
They must be worshiped and remembered through Vedic methods. Once appeased, they are highly effective in granting quick and powerful results—even what seems impossible becomes possible through their blessings.
C) Shrapit Pitra (Cursed Ancestors):
These are the most dangerous and destructive among Pitras. They may have been Shant or Ashant Pitras, but due to past sins or karmic curses, they become Shrapit (cursed).
Even if they do not wish to harm, they are forced to do so, as they are under the influence or control of other tormented souls or negative energies.
These are forefathers who:
- Died suddenly or unnaturally
- Committed sins, crimes, or harmful deeds—knowingly or unknowingly
- Injured or killed humans, cows, snakes, unborn children (foetuses), etc.
- Never repented or sought forgiveness
Such Pitras are constantly tormented by those whom they harmed, and they, in turn, inflict suffering on their descendants to recover the karmic debt.
If you have Shrapit Pitra, you must be extremely cautious. You are the only one who can break this cycle—by identifying the Dosha, compensating the Rinn (debt), and performing the necessary rituals to bring them peace.
If not resolved, these Pitras may cause continuous issues in your life and family, including:
Loss of money, Business failure, Career setbacks, Health problems, Accidents, Low confidence, Relationship conflicts, Educational hurdles, Repeated misfortunes
These effects depend on the planetary positions in your birth chart.
The only solution is to remove the Dosha, compensate the Rinn, and help the Pitras attain Mukti, by using the miraculous “Sattvaindi Yantra”, specially designed according to Vedic methods.
📌 Note: Almost every person and family has some form of Pitra Dosha—especially the Shrapit kind—unless resolved through other practices
A True Story from Ancient Times
Once upon a time, in the Raghu Kul dynasty, there lived a noble king named Maharaja Sagar. He ruled twenty four generations before Maharaja Dashrath, the father of Lord Rama. Known for his kindness and generosity, Maharaja Sagar had three brave and virtuous sons. His eldest son, Asamanjasa was already married and had a proud 8-year-old son named Anshuman.
One unfortunate day, due to a misunderstanding, his sons unintentionally disturbed and disrespected Saint Kapil Muni, who was in deep meditation of Lord Brahma. In response to this in Krodh-agni, the saint cursed and turned them into ashes. Because of this grave sin, their souls could not attain Mukti (liberation) or a place in heaven. Instead, they were forced to remain trapped in the Pitra Yoni as Shrapit (cursed) and Ashant (unsettled) ancestors.
The Fall of a Dynasty and the Rise of Devotion
As time passed, Maharaja Sagar gradually lost his kingdom, family, fame—everything. He retreated into a dense forest along with his grandson, Anshuman, who was now nine years old. They lived a simple and humble life, surviving on fruits and leaves, and dedicated their time to the worship of Lord Shiva.
Before long, King Sagar passed away, leaving Anshuman to face his destiny alone. Anshuman continued his inner journey, engaging in deep devotion and prayer. One day, Lord Shiva appeared before him in the form of an old sage and gave him three divine instruments (Yantras). He said:
“Son, your ancestors are burdened by Pitra Rinn (ancestral debt) and Pitra Dosha. They have not attained Mukti and remain trapped in Pitra Yoni. You must compensate their karmic debt, remove the Dosha, and help them find peace by worshipping with these Yantras. Pray to Lord Brahma and wish for the descent of the holy river Ganga on Earth to cleanse their sins.”
Generations of Devotion
Following Lord Shiva’s guidance, Anshuman began worshipping with the Yantras. Gradually, fortune returned—he regained part of his grandfather’s lost kingdom and married a noble and beautiful woman. Soon, he became the proud father of a son named Dilip.
Though Anshuman worshipped tirelessly throughout his life, Lord Brahma never appeared to him. As he neared the end of his life, he passed the sacred responsibility to his son King Dilip.
King Dilip also devoted his life to worship, but he too failed to receive Brahma’s divine presence. Before passing away, he entrusted the same mission to his son, King Bhagirath.
Bhagirath took the sacred duty seriously and began his prayers and rituals using the Yantras, following his father’s instructions. Eventually, his sincere efforts bore fruit—Lord Brahma appeared and granted him the blessing to bring the holy river Ganga to Earth.
The Divine Revelation
As Lord Brahma was about to depart, Bhagirath humbly asked:
“O Lord! My grandfather Anshuman and my father Dilip worshipped with complete devotion all their lives, yet you never appeared before them. I, on the other hand, have only worshipped for a few years, and you have graced me with your presence. What was lacking in their devotion?”
Lord Brahma smiled and said:
“Turn to your right.”
There, standing with divine presence, was Lord Shiva. Bhagirath bowed and repeated his question.
Lord Shiva replied:
“Every soul must go through its own Lekha (karmic account) and perform its destined Karma. I had given a solution to your grandfather Anshuman because he was my disciple. He obeyed and followed my guidance, worshipping with faith. His efforts compensated for his father’s sins and restored some lost fortune. Your father’s devotion helped remove the Dosha and eased the curse of Kapil Muni. And now, your efforts and Karma have brought you the divine blessing from Lord Brahma. As a result, your ancestors will finally attain Mukti.”
The Learnings from the Story
This story leaves us with profound questions:
- Why did Lord Shiva ask Anshuman to worship Lord Brahma, when Ganga ultimately flows from Shiva’s Jatta (hair)?
- Why did Lord Brahma direct Bhagirath to look to his right instead of answering directly?
- Why didn’t Lord Shiva bless Anshuman or Bhagirath with Ganga himself?
The answer lies in one powerful concept: Lekha.
Every being in this universe has a defined role and responsibility—be it the planets, the Sun, Moon, Earth, oceans, air, blood, nature, or even breath. Imagine the chaos if any of these forces acted beyond their limits.
But we, as humans, often cross our karmic boundaries, and in return, we suffer the consequences.
How PITRA DOSH / RINN / LEKHA gets generated and affects us?
When family members die suddenly and unexpectedly due to accidents or diseases, leaving the human world (manushya yoni) with many unfulfilled desires, or when they knowingly or unknowingly commit sins such as killing a snake, cow, or unborn child, these deeds are counted as Lekha (karmic debt). If not compensated or removed through proper Vedic methods, this karmic burden is passed down through up to seven generations.
As a result, Pitra Dosh or Rinn forms in the 9th house of the birth chart, typically marked by the conjunction of the Sun and Rahu. The 9th house is also associated with the father, and the Sun is the karaka (significator) for father, progress, longevity and promotion. When malefic Rahu affects the Sun, it can form Grahan Yoga (eclipse yoga), which, according to Vedic scriptures, removes the auspiciousness of the house in which they are conjoined.
This yoga is considered a result of karmic debt from ancestors or past lives. Some other causes of Pitra Dosh include:
- Bad deeds (karma) of ancestors, knowingly or unknowingly, that disturb their souls.
- Excessive emotional attachment to family.
- Bad karma of children, knowingly or unknowingly, that affects ancestral peace.
- Unfulfilled desires of ancestors.
- Sudden or unnatural deaths of ancestors, including death by overdose, unknown locations, or unperformed final rites.
- Forgetting or failing to honor ancestors according to Vedic customs.
- Ancestors’ souls having lingering worldly desires.
How PITRA DOSH / RINN / LEKHA Affects the Birth Chart?
Below is a simplified explanation of how planetary combinations in a birth chart indicate the presence of Pitra Dosh. This section uses Roman Hindi for clarity and better connection with traditional astrology learners:
- 1st or 8th House: If Mercury (Budh) and Ketu are placed here, Mars (Mangal) becomes malefic, affecting health. Someone in the family may suffer from chronic illness. Nearly 55% of income may go toward hospital and medical expenses. Growth in life becomes difficult. In some cases, premature death occurs.
- 2nd or 9th House: If Venus (Shukra), Mercury, or Rahu are present in any two combinations, Jupiter (Brihaspati) gives bad results. The person and family face financial struggles, debts, poverty, and even abandonment in old age. Life may end in begging or living under others’ mercy.
- 3rd House: Presence of Moon (Chandra) here makes Mercury malefic. This leads to frequent business losses, betrayal in partnerships, relocation, and, in severe cases, involvement in illegal activities and court matters.
- 4th House: If Ketu is present, Moon becomes malefic. The person or their child may suffer from mental illness. Family peace is disturbed, and in extreme cases, may cause suicide or homicide within the family.
- 5th House: If Venus, Saturn, or Rahu are in any two combinations, the Sun becomes malefic. Childbirth becomes difficult or impossible. If childbirth happens, the child may be mentally or physically disabled. In a woman’s chart, this can indicate repeated miscarriages or stillbirth.
- 6th House: If Moon or Mars (or both) are present, Ketu becomes malefic. The person may face repeated legal troubles or imprisonment. Wealth does not stay in the house, and financial conditions worsen over time.
- 7th House: If Sun, Moon, or Rahu are present in any two combinations, Venus becomes malefic. This leads to marital discord, domestic violence, infidelity, or even divorce. In extreme cases, it may result in suicide or murder.
- 10th or 11th House: If Sun, Moon, or Mars are present in any two combinations, Saturn becomes malefic. The person suffers job instability, financial fraud, and social disgrace. In some cases, may face life in prison or even family destruction.
- 12th House: If Sun or Venus (or both) are present, Rahu becomes malefic. The spouse may have extramarital affairs, damaging the family’s reputation. There may be no prosperity at home, and addiction to gambling or alcohol is likely. In extreme cases, the person may be murdered by their spouse or spouse’s lover.

How to Check if Your Pitras are Around You?
Many people sense signs of ancestral souls presence during important family events but remain unsure. Here are three effective ways to recognize if your ancestors are around you:
- Gita Method: Before sleeping, take a shower and read Chapter 11 of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita for three consecutive nights. While invoking your Pitras, seek forgiveness for any misdeeds and mistreatments must have happened from your side knowingly or knowingly and if they appear in your dreams and give your signal of their presence then you shall do Sthapana of SattvaPindi Yantra and a small pooja. If your Pitras are around, they will appear in your dreams in a way you won’t forget.
- Barley Ritual: Before sleeping take a shower and wrap 84 grams of barley in a red cloth, place it under your pillow, chant “Om Namah Shivaya” 84 times, and face south while saying, “Whoever my Pitra are, please appear in my dream and calmly make me aware of your presence and commit to them that and if they appear in your dreams and give you signal of their presence then you shall do Sthapana of SattvaPindi Yantra and a small pooja.” They may appear in symbolic forms. You may consult elders or an expert for interpretation.
- Sun & Barley Test: Look at the Sun, turn south, and express your intent to offer barley to Pitra. Distribute 84 grams of barley at 9 places, set aside the balance. Recombine and pick up barley using thumb, middle, and ring finger. If the count equals the balance, no Pitra are around. If unequal, they are present.
Note: Do full fill your commitment of performing Sattvpindi Tarpan at jyotirlinga OR Placing Sattvpindi yantra/Pitru Dosh Yantra at home
What is SATTVPINDI YANTRA/PITRU Dosh Yantra?
Just like every deity, Pitras/ancestors souls too have their own sacred yantra called the SATTVPINDI YANTRA. It was originally given by Lord Shiva (Kaal Mahakaal) to the ancestors of the Raghukul dynasty in the form of SatPindas/SattvPindi Tarpan/SattvPindi Yantra. Below Shlok from Garud Purana Says it all;
“सत्त्वपिंद्दर्शनमात्रेण:पितॄणामनुदाम:भवेत्:”
Meaning – सत्त्वापिण्डी के दर्शन मात्र से ही पितृऋण से मुक्ति मिल जाती है
It combines:
- Kaalsarp Yantra
- Narayan Nagbali Pitra Patdi
- Tripindi Shraddha Yantra
These represent the three yonis: Dev Yoni, Yam Yoni, and Manushya Yoni, and address the three types of ancestors: Shant, Ashant, and Shrapit Pitra. It is placed inside a pyramid for protection and energy amplification.
The pyramid has:
- Five corners symbolizing five Tarpans (offerings)
- Four triangles to absorb negativity from four directions
The Sattvaindi Yantra is energised (pran-pratishthit) by learned Vedic priests and has no side effects. It should be placed in your home, office, or workspace and worshipped for 40 days by chanting;
The Complete method of placing & worshiping Sattvpindi/Pitru Dosh yantra has been given in the Pustika (Manual) which comes along with the Packet.
“ॐ हीं बंधवा, अबंधवा, शांतेय, अशांतेय, श्रापेय येण्या जन्मानि बंधवा I ते सर्वे तृप्तिमायान्तु, ऋणनामयन्तु, दोषमायान्तु”
What is Yantra?
“Yantra” literally means machine, which is an assemblage of multi-purpose forms. If you combine some multi-purpose authentic forms together, a machine is formed. This can be a simple or complex form for a certain purpose or multiple purposes. Just as a physical device or machine is made by combining different purposeful physical forms (parts) together, similarly a machine for other life (Inner) purposes is made by combining different purposeful forms together and Activated by Chanting Mantras.
Pitru Dosh: Understanding Its Meaning and Impact
Pitru Dosh, rooted in Vedic astrology, is believed to arise when the souls of one’s ancestors are dissatisfied or burdened due to unresolved issues or unfulfilled duties. This celestial imbalance is often attributed to ancestral karmic debts or improper performance of rituals and rites, such as Shraddha or Tarpan. According to traditional beliefs, Pitru Dosh can manifest in an individual’s horoscope and may lead to obstacles in personal growth, strained relationships, health issues, or financial instability. To mitigate its effects, practices like offering prayers, performing ancestral rituals, or observing disciplines are recommended, fostering harmony and a sense of closure for the departed souls.
In earlier days, there used to be joint families staying mostly together or in the same villages and hence people would often perform poojas for the departed souls. But as the time has passed, the families have moved from village to cities and mostly are nuclear families. Many a times we don’t even know about the departed souls in our clan with whom we are not in touch. These gets accumulated and as people in our clan pass and it mounts to atrupt souls waiting to be performed shraddh and poojas which comes back to us as pitru dosha.
Benefits of Pitru Dosha Puja:
Garud Puran clearly mentions that Pitru Bhog, Shradh, Tarpan, Pind Daan and religious rituals are suggested to get rid of ancestor’s deed (Pitru Dosh) and to compensate for the debts generated by their actions. SatpindasTarpan(Sattvpindi) is considered to be the correct and easy way to attain tarpan and salvation.
It is considered more auspicious to please our ancestors before pleasing the gods.
Pitru Dosha Puja, a ritual performed to appease ancestors and alleviate ancestral karmic imbalances, is believed to bring several benefits, particularly in the realms of wealth, business, and health. Here are three drastic benefits often associated with it:
- Attracting Wealth and Financial Prosperity
- Performing Pitru Dosha Puja is thought to remove obstacles caused by ancestral karma, which may hinder financial growth. It aligns cosmic energies to attract wealth and open new avenues for income. It is known that it clears debts, both karmic and monetary, paving the way for financial stability and abundance.
- Enhancing Business Success
- The puja is believed to reduce negative influences that block professional progress. By gaining the blessings of ancestors, individuals have experienced drastic change in decision-making, getting bigger opportunities and extremely positive outcomes in their business and careers. It is said to resolve unseen hindrances, boosting confidence and enabling rapid business growth.
- Improving Health and Overall Well-Being
- Ancestors’ unresolved energies or dissatisfaction can manifest as health issues, according to traditional beliefs. Pitru Dosha Puja is said to mitigate such effects, promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It helps create harmony within the family, reducing stress and fostering a healthier life.
